Keeping an eye on your vehicle’s systems is important in order to maintain a safe, efficient vehicle. Some systems to look out for are the engine, Emission control, cooling system, driver assist, and exhaust system. All these systems are important and will keep your vehicle running smoothly and safely.

Emission control system

Having an emission control system installed in your car is vital to reducing the amount of pollutants that are released from your vehicle. It protects the environment and public health by containing and cleaning the most harmful gases that come out of your engine.

The emission control system is a set of interconnected components that are designed to limit the loss of gas vapors. It includes a vapor recirculation tube, an evaporative emission canister, a purge control valve, and a fuel tank pressure sensor. It is also connected to the whole fuel and exhaust system.

When you have an emission control system failure, you will notice a loss in power, harsh shifting, and hesitation at acceleration. Your vehicle might also have trouble shifting or jerking, and you may have trouble shifting into a higher gear.

Exhaust system

Designed to transport burnt gases from the engine, the exhaust system has many functions. It also helps in emissions control, reducing noise, and enhancing fuel economy. Several parts make up the system, including an exhaust manifold, oxygen sensor, catalytic converter, tailpipe, and one or more exhaust pipes.

An exhaust manifold is a type of manifold that gathers and diverts the exhaust gases from several cylinders into a single pipe. It also helps to keep dirt from getting into the engine.

The catalytic converter is a type of catalytic device that converts harmful gases into less harmful gasses. It is a necessary component of modern combustion engines.

Lane-keep assist

Whether you’re driving a new vehicle or are a long time veteran, there’s a good chance you’ve heard of Lane-keep assist. This system monitors your vehicle’s position within the lane and alerts you when you’re about to drift out of it.

A lane-keeping assist system can keep your car in the right lane with a little help from its electric power steering and electronic stability program. It uses cameras to scan the road markings and determine the lane in which you’re driving. The system then uses an electronic stability program to brake each of the individual wheels on your vehicle to keep it in the right lane.

Engine

Basically, the engine is the heart of your vehicle. It is a complex machine comprised of a number of components. Its cylinders, pistons and ancillary components are arranged in a semi-independent manner. It has a high rotational speed, but this does not detract from its overall performance. The modern automotive engine is suitable for both marine and land applications.

The engine’s main function is to burn hydrocarbon within the cylinder head. A spark plug is placed at the end of the cylinder to ignite the gas. The combustion process creates hazardous gases that are bad for the environment. In order to prevent such emissions, modern engines have been fitted with emission control systems.

Liquid-cooled cooling system

Almost all automobiles today employ liquid cooling systems. Liquid cooling systems draw heat from the engine and transport it outside to the air, ensuring that the engine is at a stable and efficient temperature.

While liquid-cooled engines offer consistent engine performance, their maintenance is more difficult than air-cooled systems. Liquid-cooled engines don’t use regular water, but instead a special coolant containing alcohol. The liquid has a higher boiling point than the air, so it doesn’t get cold as quickly.

Liquid-cooled systems also use a water-cooling system, which consists of a radiator, a water pump, and water jackets. The radiator is made up of several small tubes that have thin metal fins that conduct heat from the liquid. The water pump is driven by a belt from the crankshaft. The water jackets are provided around the cylinders.

Driver assist system

Among the various automotive systems, driver assist systems are among the most common. They help drivers by providing steering input and other control functions, making driving safer and more comfortable. However, it can be difficult to understand what these systems are all about. Some of them can perform emergency braking if required. Some systems are fully automated, while others require the driver to take control.

The Mercedes-Benz Blind Spot Assist system uses radar technology to monitor the area 3 m to the rear of the vehicle. It alerts the driver through vibrations in the steering wheel and visual signals.

Driver monitoring systems also use infrared sensors, performance measures, and biological measures to assess driver alertness. The system detects when the driver has fatigue, evaluates typical signs of fatigue, and prompts a visual and acoustic warning message.
