IBM’s Watson-as-a-Service

Despite the buzz surrounding IBM’s Watson, the company hasn’t made a big splash. That’s not to say the technology isn’t interesting. Instead, there are many reasons why this artificial intelligence system may not make the cut for a leading role in your organization.

Unlike other artificial intelligence systems, Watson isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. Instead, it uses open source tools and software to perform complex analytics on large volumes of unstructured data.

Watson was a big part of IBM’s transformation into a modern cloud-based company. Using Watson, companies can start small and scale up without expensive on-premises computing.

Watson is a system for analyzing large amounts of historical data. It processes natural language, unstructured documents, and machines. It also has applications in law, finance, music and entertainment, education, food and beverage, and geotechnical engineering.

Bigelow’s usage

During the early 19th century, Jacob Bigelow, an American physician, was famous for his work on botany and the preparation of the first national pharmacopeia of the United States. He was also known for his ethological perspective on technology. Among other accomplishments, he wrote a commentary on the pharmacopeia.

In 1829, he published a book of collected lectures, Elements of Technology. It established a framework for understanding the dimensions of technological development. It was renamed in the third edition as The Useful Arts. It was a popular book for decades, and it was the first American book to feature color illustrations.

In 1810, Bigelow studied medicine at Harvard. He then attended the University of Pennsylvania and eventually earned a doctorate. He served as a professor of botany and material medica at the University of Pennsylvania before he moved to Boston. He was then appointed a Rumford Professor at Harvard College.

The Nature of Technology: What It Is and How It Evolves

Using a mix of research and real life examples, Professor Brian Arthur presents a systematic view of technology. He offers a three-tiered definition of technology that provides a useful framework for describing technological change.

The book is geared towards business readers. Its aim is to help them understand the evolution of technology in an economically sound manner.

The author believes that the best way to explain the evolution of technology is through the mechanism of “combinatorial evolution.” This is the process of connecting existing parts to create new ones. This process occurs in special cases over long periods of time.

The author also believes that the aforementioned mechanism is not the only one in play. For example, a more traditional innovation mechanism is the accumulation of knowledge over time.

Schatzberg’s book

Whether you are an engineer or a layman, you are likely to find the concepts, technologies, and gizmos discussed in Eric Schatzberg’s book on technology enlightening. In his book, he provides a comprehensive survey of the subject and includes a brief explanation of what the term ‘technology’ is all about.

The book also draws on the best of current historiography. The book’s main thesis is that the term ‘technology’ has taken a beating over the years. One example is the popular use of the term ‘technology’ in a general sense. The phrase was used only sporadically before the twentieth century.

The book covers a broad range of topics, including the history of the word ‘technology’, the origins of the ‘technological marvel’, and the various innovations in communication that have changed the way we live our lives.

Impact on the environment

Despite the fact that technology has been a major contributor to improving human life and quality of life, it has also posed serious environmental problems. However, there is hope that technology can be used to restore the environment if used correctly.

For the past century, the effects of technology on the environment have been growing. Increasing population, industrialization, and the use of fossil fuels have all contributed to environmental degradation. The consequences of pollution include global warming and health risks for humans.

In addition to these negative effects of technology on the environment, there are also positive impacts. Renewable energy, for instance, provides clean energy. These renewable energies include solar, wind, and geothermal heat. These technologies are also cheaper than other forms of energy.

Some of the positive impacts of technology on the environment involve the lowering of harmful gas emissions. These gases include carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and methane.
