The registration must be renewed every year. When an individual’s subscription is close to ending the DBS service gets in touch with them through email. Via email the DBS informs the individual that their subscription is about to expire and they are asked if they would like to continue their subscription for the next year.
Registering for the DBS update service
For an individual to qualify for the update service, they need to first apply for a DBS check earlier. The 3 ways by which anyone can register for the service include:
Application Reference Number: The easiest way to register for the DBS update service is via the application reference number. It can be done while filling in the form or after completion of the application. Those that sign up for the update service with a reference number of a partly-filled form will have to ensure that the complete and submit their application within the stipulated 28 days of joining the service.
DBS Certificate Number: Those that have their applications completed will be able to us the DBS certificate’s number they receive. As part of the eligibility for the DBS update service, the application must be submitted within a month of their DBS certificate getting issued.
E-Reference Number: The third way to get registered for the DBS update service is via the e-reference number provided. Although, e-reference numbers are only available if the application is part of a lot of applications that have been applied using a registered body.
Are those that have completed their Basic DBS check eligible for the Update Service?
No, at present only those individuals that have had their standard or enhanced DBS checks completed are eligible for the DBS update service only. Those having their Basic DBS check completed do not qualify to register for the update service.
