Whether you’re a newcomer to your city or a seasoned resident, there are some great things to do in your neighborhood. But which ones are the top?
Tennyson Street
Located northwest of downtown Denver, Tennyson Street is a unique neighborhood that offers a great walkability and cultural experience. It is home to a variety of shops, restaurants, and coffee shops.
The first Friday Art Walk in Denver was held on Tennyson Street. This event brought artists and art lovers from across the city to the neighborhood to enjoy the burgeoning art scene.
Today, the thriving community is still centered on Tennyson Street. Many of the long-time businesses are still on the strip. Some of them are planning a community day on 24 July.
One of the most popular places to dine and drink on Tennyson Street is the Tennyson Street Tavern. The restaurant has an outdoor patio and an extensive wine and whiskey selection. It also has happy hour Monday through Friday. The menu offers sandwiches, salads, and soups.
Tennyson Park
Despite its location atop the hump atop Denver, Tennyson Park isn’t exactly your run of the mill. The good folks at the Parks department do their best to make sure that it remains that way. It is also the proud home of Denver’s sexiest dog, er, pup. The best thing about Tennyson is the quaint and laid back atmosphere it has to offer. In addition to the usual suspects, Tennyson has an eclectic collection of shops, cafes, and eateries to boot. Unlike other parts of town, it’s easy to get around on foot or by bike. Moreover, Tennyson’s quaintness makes it a great place to hang out with the kids while you do your own thing. The Parks department boasts a robust kid-friendly program that includes a free day camp program for under-served youth.
Santa Fe Avenue
Whether you’re looking for some interesting shopping or just a place to enjoy the day, Santa Fe Avenue is the perfect place to spend a few hours. You can find some cool museums, hip hangouts and lots of other things to do here. You’ll be surrounded by beautiful architecture and lots of history, too.
If you’re in the mood for shopping, the Santa Fe Farmer’s Market has plenty of offerings to choose from. This market is a great place to get fresh produce, baked goods and locally-sourced meats. You’ll also find local honey, flowers and other goodies. It’s open on Saturdays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Sundays, and is one of the most popular Santa Fe activities.
If you’re interested in art, then you’ll love Canyon Road Arts. This street is home to more than 80 art galleries, boutiques and restaurants. You can wander around and admire the works of many Santa Fe artists. You’ll also discover Southwestern wood carvings, jewelry and purses.
Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum
Located on the former Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, the Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum is a must-see for aviation enthusiasts. This is a fun and educational museum experience. You can find more than 50 aircraft on display, and there is a virtual flight simulator. There are also several educational programs.
The Clyfford Still Museum is a popular destination, especially because it’s the only place in the city where you can see 95% of the famous artist’s work. The building also contains the Colorado State Capitol, which is a recognizable landmark.
The Denver Museum of Nature and Science is a great place to educate yourself and your kids about the Rocky Mountains. There are more than one million objects in their collection, and they host educational programs, including paleontology and anthropology.
Washington Park
Located in Denver, Washington Park is one of the largest parks in the city. It is a popular destination for visitors, as it provides a number of recreational activities for the whole family. There are tennis and basketball courts, a playground, picnic areas, and more.
The park also offers a 5.2-acre lake in the southwest corner. This area has a boat launch and a playground. The playground includes slides, ramps, and a large play area. You can even bring your own volleyball net and play.
The park features expansive lawns and tree-lined paths. You can also enjoy a peep into the views of the coast or a peek at the tessellated rock formations on the beach.
You can find many other things to do in Washington Park, including a lighthouse museum, a natatorium, a recreation center, a performance space, a splash pad, and more. In addition, the park hosts a variety of special events throughout the year.
